A senior consultant from Hessle-based Mercury Design and Marketing was one of three motivational speakers who stepped up to speak to 16 groups of school children at Biz Week’s Business Education Day.
Andrew Acum, of Mercury, joined Paul Sewell from Times Top 100 company Sewell Group and Ed Warner Sales Director of charitable organisation The One Foundation, to give a presentation on marketing to budding entrepreneurs.
The event, organised by Humber Economic Partnership which Mercury manages communications work for, took place at the Country Park Inn at Hessle and challenged the pupils to take inspiration from the business minded presentations they had heard and create a more advanced business idea from just a small tea light, with the guidance of a mentor.
Sixteen schools in total competed in the event and were judged based on how well they had developed the product with the advice and guidance of their mentor.
Andrew also played the part of one of the judges and said: “Some of the pupils’ ideas were really unique and quite impressive. It was great as well to see so many local business people wanting to get involved in terms of mentoring.
“The presentation went down really well and everyone seemed to take something useful away from it. We’ve already had a couple of requests for copies of the marketing presentation from businesses that were present which is encouraging.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the day and look forward to getting involved again next year.”
